The first women's volleyball match was played as part of the Summer Olympic Games held in Paris, the capital of France.

Offsideplus.az reports that the national teams of Italy and the Dominican Republic faced each other in the meeting.

 The match at South Park Arena ended with a 3:1 (25-19; 24-26; 25:21; 25-18) victory for Italy. 

It should be noted that the most responsible player of the match was Paola Egonu, a member of the Italian national team, with 25 points.
