On the first day of the competition, six Azerbaijani athletes joined the fight, Offsideplus.az reports. Two of Azerbaijani judokas competed for medals in the men's competition and four in the women's competition.

66 kg In the
men's 66 kg weight category, Nijat Shikhalizade lost to Moldova in the 1/16 finals. 
Orkhan Safarov defeated judokas from Italy, Slovakia and Germany and reached the semifinals.

In the women's
48 kg category,

Aisha Gurbanli lost to Distria Krasnich (Kosovo) and Leyla Aliyeva lost to Katarina Mentsi (Germany) in the 1/8 finals.


Gultaj Mammadaliyeva, who started the 52 kg fight in the 1/16 final, also lost in the first match. He lost a duel with Tetyana Levitska-Shukvani (Georgia).

Azerbaijan representative Alexandra-Larisa Florian ( 57 kg ) lost to Sanne Verhagen (Netherlands) in the 1/8 final.

The European Judo Championship kicks off today in the Czech capital, Prague.

Six  Azerbaijani athletes will compete on the first day of the competition, Offsideplus.az reports.

In the men's 66 kg weight category, Nijat Shikhalizade will face Moldova's Vadim Bunescu and Orkhan Safarov will face Italy's Manuel Lombardo in the 1/16 finals .

In the women's 48 kg category, Aisha Gurbanli will try to defeat Distria Krasnich (Kosovo) and Leyla Aliyeva Katarina Mentsi (Germany). Both judokas will start the fight in the 1/8 finals. In the 52 kg category, Gultaj Mammadaliyeva will compete in the 1/8 finals with Georgian Tetyana Levitska-Shukvani. In the 57 kg category, Alexandra-Larisa Florian will face the Dutch athlete Sanne Verhagen.
