My fingers hurt a little during the first encounter.
Offsideplus.az reports that Elmar Gasimov (100 kg), the champion of Azerbaijan, said this in a statement to the press service of the federation.
The athlete, who resumed his career at the age of 34, said that he participated in the competition to check himself:
"As you know, I haven't wrestled in big arenas for two years. Training and competition are different. This showed itself in the first matches. My fingers hurt a little in the first match. But I came to my senses in the final."
The experienced judoka said that he wants to compete in other tournaments.
"If I prepare a little more and participate in training camps, I can get in better shape. If I get in normal shape, I will continue judo."
It should be noted that Elmar Gasimov, besides being the silver medalist of the 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games, won the gold medal at the European Youth Championship held in Yerevan in 2009. He is a winner of world and European championships. In addition to being a two-time winner of the prestigious "Masters" tournament, Gasimov won a total of 18 medals in Grand Slam and Grand Prix competitions.
