The Azerbaijan national team consisting of under-19 football players lost to Iceland in the 1st round of the 7th group of the qualifying round of the European Championship - 0:2.

Offsideplus.az reports that the head coach of our national team, Elkhan Abdullayev, expressed his views on the match on the official website of AFFA:

"We played against a well-organized team. At the beginning of the match, we made a few mistakes and conceded a goal. In the second half, the initiative was completely on our side. Despite the opponent's strength, we far outscored them in scoring opportunities. I see the main reason for the defeat is that we did not convert the chances into goals. Although we conceded two goals, we could have changed the situation. However, we could not evaluate the scoring opportunities sufficiently."

The head coach said that they will go to the upcoming match to win 3 points:

"Our next opponent is the Irish national team. Although we lost the first game, we still have chances. We believe that we will fight until the end in the next meeting. Three points are very important for us, and we will go out with this goal in mind."
