Due to the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, the UEFA Executive Committee has banned the matches of national teams and clubs in Azerbaijan and Armenia, Offsideplus.az reports citing UEFA's official website.
The decision reads: “Taking into account the tense situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, the UEFA Executive Committee has decided not to hold national and club matches in Azerbaijan and Armenia until the next instruction is issued. Due to tensions on the front since late September, the Euroleague play-off match, as well as two matches in the League of Nations, were held on a neutral field on the instructions of UEFA. As the current situation has not changed, the position on holding the games on neutral grounds remains unchanged.
Thus, the Football Federation of Armenia, as well as the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan will be asked to offer alternative pitches for home games of national teams and clubs. The situation in the region will be monitored. The decision of the UEFA Executive Committee on the current situation has no effect on the games of the EC-2020, which is scheduled for June next year in Baku.
The UEFA Executive Committee has also decided to postpone the Elite Round of the Under-19 Football Championship in Northern Ireland due to an unresolved coronavirus pandemic.
