Azerbaijan's national team of under-17 freestyle wrestlers won the continental championship held in Novi Sad, Serbia. Our team beat Armenia and Turkey with 160 points.

In his statement to Offsideplus.az, the senior coach of the team, Asgarkhan Novruzov, evaluated the performance of our wrestlers:

"We were well prepared for the tournament. In 2022, we became the European champion in the team score. Although we wanted to repeat this success last year, we did not succeed. It is sport, not everything goes as you want. We were diligently preparing for the championship of the continent, which was left behind. Because last year, Armenians scored more points than us in the team score. On the first day of the competition, both we and Armenia performed better. However, we will try to show our best results. it will not be easy like the European Championship, but everyone knows our strength. We have strong opponents like the USA and Iran. I believe that we will take one of the first 3 places in the team score."

The expert noted that our wrestlers are preparing for competitions with special motivation:

"We prepare for competitions with special motivation. I try to inculcate many things in our training. You have to prepare the athlete psychologically for the competition. They may be physically strong, but if the wrestler is not motivated, he can go out and lose. There have been many such cases. I should note that "Our wrestlers are preparing for the match with Armenians. It was the first time that we beat each of the 5 Armenians by a large margin. Armenians are not able to take a place in the team score. But Azerbaijan always ranks first."
