The meeting focused on the upcoming competitions and events, as well as the consequences of the coronavirus pandemicOffsideplus. az reports.

As the local organizing committee refused to host the European Senior Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden in May 2021 due to a pandemic, the fate of this responsible competition, which gave license points to the Tokyo Olympics, was the main topic on the agenda.

EKF Executive Committee member Yashar Bashirov said Azerbaijan was ready to host the 56th European Championship. However, taking into account that the Premier League Karate 1 series will be held in Baku for the first time on March 12-16, 2021, the officials of the continental federation did not consider it expedient to hold two prestigious competitions in the same place with a short break.

EKF President Antonio Espinos expressed confidence that Azerbaijan will organize the Karate1 Premier League tournament at a high level, such as the European Games and the Islamic Solidarity Games. It was noted at the meeting that the final decision on the appointment of an alternative venue for the continental championship will be made by December 15.

The EKF congress, which has been postponed in Baku this year, is scheduled for August in Tampere, Finland, on separate dates before the Junior and Under-21 Continental Championships, and the continental governing body elections on the days of the European Championships. However, the next elections of the EKF President and the Executive Committee will be valid for 3 years, not 4 years.

The video conference also heard the views of other members of the Executive Committee and committee chairmen. Chairman of the Referees Committee Javier Escalante spoke about the seminar and exam of world referees before the Karate1 Premier League tournament in Baku in March. Azerbaijani international referee Jahangir Babayev is also on the World Karate Federation's (WKF) preliminary list of 16 referees for the Tokyo Olympics.
